Murdoch Baby Matters is a private billing practice. We do charge a gap fee, but these gap fees are consistently lower than the fees suggested by the AMA. Consultation fees for babies on the maternity unit, special care unit and clinic follow-up are contained in a parent information pack you’ll receive from your obstetrician. General Practitioner referral fees will be discussed with you when you make an appointment.
All babies in the maternity unit will have specialist paediatric reviews, including a discharge check. Fees depend on whether the specialist had to attend the delivery, time of attendance and number of consultations before discharge. These consultations incur a gap fee on top of the Medicare rebate. Please refer to your information pack as to the individual Paediatrician’s fees. Invoices for these consultations will be sent via email before the 6-week review.
Some babies require admission to the special care unit. Most consultations during their special care admission will be covered by medical insurance and do not incur a gap fee. Medical insurance companies do not always pay for all special care treatment required e.g. phototherapy for jaundice. Please check with your insurance company, or ask your Paediatrician for details.
Clinic fees depend the allocated appointment duration and individual requirements. If your specialist recommends further investigations or a procedure, there may be additional fees.
Accounts are required to be paid in full at the end of clinic consultations. Applicable Medicare rebates will be applied for the account by reception or may need to be claimed by yourself directly from Medicare.
Charges will appear on your bank statement under the name of the paediatrician who provided the service.
