General Paediatricians deal with a wide range of illnesses and conditions that may affect a child’s physical, mental and behavioural development, including: cancer, genetic disorders such as Cystic Fibrosis and Down’s syndrome, disabilities such as cerebral palsy, developmental delays, chronic diseases such as diabetes, infectious diseases such as meningitis, asthma and allergies and autism spectrum disorders.

A paediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of children. Paediatricians have undergone special training in the health and illnesses of newborns, infants, teens and young adults. Paediatricians are certified by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and are registered with AHPRA.

Paediatricians provide preventive health care for children in good health and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. They also provide parents with support and advice with issues such as growth and development, safety and prevention, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.

Yes. It is not routinely done, but please ask your obstetrician to arrange a meeting, if necessary. During this visit, we will answer any questions that you have about our practice or your new child.

Your child should not only see our team for an illness. The well-care visit or check-up at 6 weeks provides the best opportunity for the doctor to observe the progress of your child’s physical, mental growth and development. It is also an opportune time to discuss any concerns about feeding or other problems.

No. You may elect to see your GP. However, the 6-week specialist appointment often revolves around issues that your specialist is most familiar with.
